Mathematics Readiness Project

The Mathematics Readiness Project was funded jointly by the Eisenhower State Grant Program in Mathematics and Science and the California Academic Partnership Program. The project, directed by Harris S. Shultz of California State University, Fullerton, and Margaret DeArmond of East Bakersfield High School, developed four instructional units designed to help California’s minority high school students achieve proficiency in algebra. The units specifically target common conceptual gaps in students’ knowledge based on results of the tests administered by the California State University/University of California Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project. The units can be read with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which may be downloaded free. Once you have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader, click on the name of any of the units and download. The units are:

Adding and Subtracting Polynomials (written by Donna Dotson)

Equations Containing Rational Expressions (written by Tom Walters)

Linear Equations (written by Katrine Czajkowski)

Rational Expressions (written by Matthew Bremer)

The units are intended to be used in a variety of settings, for example in high school Algebra I classrooms where students are having problems with the material, in high school Algebra II classrooms where students need to catch up on Algebra I concepts, in after-school study sessions or in special high school summer programs.
