The biggest hit on my survey for the entire year 2003 is Brooks & Dunn's "Red Dirt Road". It is the second-longest running #1 song in the 4 year history of the chart, behind George Strait's 2001-2002 smash "Run", which crowned the survey for 13 weeks. Brooks & Dunn are hotter than ever these days, more than 10 years after their debut appearance in the country music world. They had Billboard Magazine's top song of 2001 with "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You" and have had similar success with singles like "Only In America", "You'll Always Be Loved By Me", and "He's Got You". "Red Dirt Road" is a song celebrating youthful days in a rural America. The singer recalls many of the things he's done along that road of growing up, from wrecking his first car to finding a path to heaven. The song is fast, positive, and has a strong beat. I couldn't help but sing along with the record over and over again in 2003, and that has made it the biggest hit of the year in my book!!!!!
